Dani L is currently a senior at the University of Washington pursuing a degree in Economics and a minor in Environmental Studies. Dani grew up in a house where food was not only a family tradition, it was a source of love and joy. She is excited to help share her passion for food with the student body of UW, and hopes that she can help students understand the importance of real food, and what it means to each individual. In her spare time, Dani likes to explore new hiking trails, practice yoga and try out tasty new recipes.
Favorite food on campus: Rick's Ice Cream in Haggett Hall
Dani G is a senior in the Community, Environment and Planning program with minors in Geography and Nutritional Sciences. Self-admittedly, Dani is a reformed Taco Bell fiend, who now doesn’t even wash the dirt off of their fruit and veg from the U District Farmers Market. Dani is a local and national food policy wonk, and dreams of holding a glamorous position with the USDA. Currently, Dani is the Communications and Advocacy assistant for the Washington Food Coalition, and assistant coordinator for the Northwest Farm Bill Action Group. Dani is an aspiring vegan baker as well!
Favorite food on campus: Dolmas from the District Market!
Nathan is an undergraduate student studying sociology but currently undecided in his majors. Hailing from the evergreen forests of Bainbridge Island, he is a born and raised Northwestern boy. To Nathan, food is an important medium by which we connect to the environment and can cultivate community. He has been active in HRFC since Fall Quarter of 2014 and loves organizing because it allows him to be an active member in the UW community. When he isn't organizing for Real Food on campus, Nathan is likely cooking at home, biking, or birdwatching around the Seattle area.
Coral is a junior in the Community, Environment and Planning major and is planning to minor in Nutritional Sciences. Eating real food didn’t always matter to her but when she started to learn about how the food system in the US works it changed how she thought about food. Food sovereignty/justice and urban agriculture are some of her favorite things that she would to see more of in the world. School and interning keep her pretty busy but in her free time she likes to cook delicious meals and Netflix.
Favorite food on campus: Vegetarian salads from Suzzalo cafe
Emma is a Junior in the Physiology and Visual Arts majors, and planning to minor in nutrition. She comes from a health and environmentally conscious family, where eating good food is not only a way to celebrate and come together, but the power to take care of yourself and your planet. Since coming to UW, she’s learned more about the global food system and nutrition across the US, and would love to see more food based education bringing people together- everyone eats!! When she’s not busy with school or HRFC, Emma spends her free time making jewelry, running, or trapped working in the ceramics and metal arts studios for days on end.
Favorite food on campus: Lox Bagel Sandwiches, (though she has a soft spot for peanut butter cookies.)
Aaron Choate is a PhD Student in the Department of Germanics and has been a supporting member of the Real Food Challenge at the University of Washington since Fall 2014. Aaron helped organize the Department of Germanics film series "Green German, Green Europe" in the 2015 Winter term, which included important food films such as Taste The Waste, We Feed the World - Essen Global, and The Agro Rebel: Permaculture in the Salzburg Alps. Aaron has assisted in the efforts to get the GPSS and ASUW real food resolutions passed and advocates for broader food choice options for each student meal. Aaron hopes that the Real Food Challenge and related efforts will at the very least cause local, organic food options to be on offer at ALL dining establishments on campus.
